New tubular transition metal oxoanionic derivatives: a systematic approach to condensed phases of the dumortierite family
1993
Abstract An unified synthetic approach has allowed us to isolate a wide set of highly condensed oxoanionic derivatives of transition metals by using solution chemistry procedures. New phases are described [Ni 12+ x H 6−2 x (AsO 4 ) 8 (OH) 6 . Ni 6 (SeO 3 ) 4 (OH) 4 ], and the preparation of other already known [Ni 12+ x H 6−2 x (PO 4 ) 8 (OH) 6 , Ni 3 Te 2 O 6 (OH) 2 ] is significantly simplifi ed. The structure of these derivatives, as well as that of other phases such as M 11 (HPO 3 ) 8 (OH) 6 (M=Zn, Co, Ni), previously characterized by us, can be related to that of the dumortierite mineral. The main features of the tubular channels that characterize this structure and the possibility to …

Solution Chemistry of Element 106: Theoretical Predictions of Hydrolysis of Group 6 Cations Mo, W, and Sg
2001
Fully relativistic molecular density-functional calculations of the electronic structure of hydrated and hydrolyzed complexes have been performed for the group 6 elements Mo, W, and element 106, Sg. By use of the electronic density distribution data, relative values of the free energy changes and constants of hydrolysis reactions were defined. The results show hydrolysis of the cationic species with the formation of neutral molecules to decrease in the order Mo > W > Sg, which is in agreement with experiments for Mo, W, and Sg. For the further hydrolysis process with the formation of anionic species, the trend is reversed: Mo > Sg > W. A decisive energetic factor in the hydrolysis process …
Sequential and site-specific on-surface synthesis on a bulk insulator
2013
cited By 15; International audience; The bottom-up construction of functional devices from molecular building blocks offers great potential in tailoring materials properties and functionality with utmost control. An important step toward exploiting bottom-up construction for real-life applications is the creation of covalently bonded structures that provide sufficient stability as well as superior charge transport properties over reversibly linked self-assembled structures. On-surface synthesis has emerged as a promising strategy for fabricating stable, covalently bound molecular structure on surfaces. So far, a majority of the structures created by this method have been obtained from a rat…
Dynamic properties of solvent confined in silica gels studied by broadband dielectric spectroscopy
2007
Abstract We report the results of a broadband (10−2–107 Hz) dielectric spectroscopy study on a solvent system (glycerol–water solution) confined in a porous silica matrix. The dielectric relaxation of the system is studied as a function of both temperature (120–280 K) and solvent composition (0–36 glycerol molar percentage), at constant matrix composition. Our data show that glycerol–water systems confined inside silica gel are characterized by a very complex dynamics quite different from that observed in solution, thus indicating that confinement may deeply modify solvent dynamics. Indeed in addition to the relaxation processes similar to those occurring in bulk samples, new dielectric rel…

centers induced by γ irradiation in sol–gel synthesized oxygen deficient amorphous silicon dioxide
2007
The effects of room temperature γ-ray irradiation up to a dose of ∼1300 kGy are investigated by Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) measurements in amorphous silicon dioxide (a-SiO2) produced by a sol-gel synthesis method that introduces O{triple bond, long}Si{single bond}Si{triple bond, long}O oxygen deficiency. We have found that exposure to radiation generates the Eγ′ center with the same spectral features found in high purity commercial a-SiO2. The maximum concentration of defects induced in this sol-gel material indicates that its resistance to radiation is comparable to that of synthetic fused a-SiO2. The concentration of Eγ′ center increases with irradiation, featuring a sublinear …
Recent Achievement and Perspectives in Synchrotron Radiation X-Ray Absorption Spectroscopy
2003
During the last 20 years, x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) has found extensive application in the materials science [1, 2, 3]. solution chemistry [4], biology [5]. therapeutic chemistry [6] and geochemistry. However. it is relatively recently XAS methods have been utilized for measurements on archaeological materials [7,8].
Soft hydrothermal synthesis of new microporous materials based on phosphate-like species
1994
ABSTRACTFactors controlling hydrothermal synthetic procedures are not well understood. A good knowledge of the solution chemistry of precursor species is the best reference for the design of rational procedures. Examples of the predictive character of simple models in order to rationalize complex syntheses are discussed in detail.
